Etsy charges four fees,
not the one you budgeted for.
A $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% of everything the buyer pays, and 3% + $0.25 processing — about 10% all in. If Offsite Ads claimed the sale, it is closer to 25%.

Fee rates are editable defaults — always verify current fees on Etsy's own fee page, since platforms change rates. FeeStack computes the math; you set the rate.

The shipping trap
Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee is charged on the total the buyer pays, which includes the postage you charge them. Add $6 shipping to a $30 item and you owe an extra $0.39 in transaction fee before you have bought a label. Sellers who raise shipping to protect margin often hand most of the increase straight back.
Offsite Ads is the number that hurts
When a sale is attributed to Etsy's Offsite Ads, another 15% of the order comes off — 12% once your trailing annual sales pass $10,000, at which point you can no longer opt out. On a $75 order that single line is $11.25, turning a 10.1% total fee into 25.1%. Model your worst case, not your average.
FAQ
How much does Etsy take from a $30 sale?
About $3.15 on a $30 item with free shipping — $0.20 listing, $1.95 transaction, and $1.15 processing — leaving you $26.85 before materials and postage. If Offsite Ads claimed it, add $4.50.
Is the $0.20 listing fee included here?
Yes. This calculator uses 9.5% + $0.45, where the $0.45 is the $0.25 processing fee plus the $0.20 listing fee, so the figure you see already accounts for it.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes — the 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% processing fee both apply to the shipping the buyer pays, not just the item price. Enter it in the shipping field so the maths is right.
